How accurate is the due date calculator?
The due date calculator provides an estimate based on your last menstrual period. Only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most are born within two weeks before or after the estimated due date.
Why is the first day of my last period used to calculate my due date?
Pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period because it's difficult to know exactly when conception occurred. Ovulation and conception typically occur about two weeks after the first day of your period.
What if I don't know my last menstrual period date?
If you're unsure about the date of your last period, your healthcare provider may schedule an early ultrasound to determine gestational age and estimate your due date more accurately.
