About URL Encoding/Decoding
What is URL Encoding?
URL encoding converts special characters to a % followed by two hexadecimal digits. This ensures URLs are transmitted correctly over the internet. For example, spaces become %20.
Common Use Cases
- Preparing API request parameters
- Fixing broken links with spaces or special characters
- Encoding form data for submission
- Creating properly formatted URLs
- Handling international characters in URLs
Important Notes
Encode full URLs only when necessary. Typically, you should encode individual query parameters. Some characters like :, /, ?, and # have special meaning in URLs and should not be encoded in the main URL structure.
